YGT into their stride as season nears end

The Ocean Course Kiawah Island

Following a disappointing campaign, the season’s slowest starters had the opportunity for redemption in the Duffers Plate, this time hosted by Kiawah Island and their famed Ocean Course.

First up were YGT A taking on Any Holes A Goal. As has been observed before, no YGT team is complete without a big-hitter, and this week they hoped to marry this power game with a lighter touch around the greens. They have certainly been improving as the weeks go on and hoped to unlock the secret this week against a Goal side that has struggled to find any cohesion at all.

On the back foot from the off, Goal produced an up and down on the first that would have left even Seve scratching his head, and duly forced an opening half. They were fortunate that YGT were being single0-handedly propped up by Tiger Tommy while his team-mates merely offering half-hearted moral support. With Tommy making birdies on 12 and 13 the prospect of victory for Goal appeared less and less likely. Despite holing a couple of gobblers, they were unable to eat away at the margin and were dealt a heavy blow when a member of YGT’s backroom staff pitched in for eagle on the 16th to all but seal the win

YGT are certainly on an upward curve, and will have benefitted from an improved performance by Goal. Their game has been very much reliant on length off the tee and will hopefully gain a little more depth in the coming weeks that may elevate them to the top table of team golf.

A far cry from the top table are the enigmatic #GCW side, who this week were playing the anorexic and refusing to even enter the dining facility. This was great news for Webbo’s 12 Inch Gimmies who were delighted to pick up just their second win. In fairness to #GCW there was talk of some sort of controversy in the Pennsylvania area on Sunday night and they were keen to uphold the integrity of the USGA.

Next Week sees YGT bid to close out their season in style against the well-rested Webbo. Bookies are currently reluctant to commit either way on this one, but there is talk of a big prop bet being placed on total driving yardage by YGT.
