England great can’t help as Arnie’s Army let title slip

It was there for the taking. Door open – all they had to do was walk through it. On the verge of greatness. Surprisingly the run-away favourites were turned over by the young Dude’s as the title race was blown open.

Even the presence of Arsenal & England legend Ian Wright couldn’t stem the bleeding for Arnie’s Army. In a move that smacked of over-confidence, Arnie shuffled his pack to include the former Gunner and also included a man who has now established himself as the worst PGA pro alive – and that really is going some!

It may be a little unfair to lay all the blame in the Arnie camp, as their opponents, Dude Where’s my Par, played some wonderful golf and energised the galleries with their distinctive brand of golf. It was remarkable how their standard lifter yet further as one of their renowned WAG’s appeared on the 14th to witness great displays of testosterone-fuelled driving therein. Needless to say, the Dude’s ran out comfortable winners by 3 holes, and now have one hand on the trophy.

The only team now capable of stopping Dude’s, are the Princess & his Paupers who have experienced a revival in fortunes since their subdued start to the campaign. In what promised to be an even contest against Boston Tee Party, the Princess was surprised to make such serene progress – despite their Belfast Bomber smashing drives to all parts of Hilton Head. The Tee Party never really got into full swing, and were fighting their own game as well as the solid play of the Paupers. This turned out to be the end of the road for the Tee Party, and while Princess & his Paupers can’t win the league, their resurgent form may still influence the destination of the title.

Half the GTA Zeebras side turned out looking like they were on a stag do in a bid to lighten the mood for their fixture against UV Eagles. Despite their positive approach and always entertaining style, the Zeebras were unable to stem the bleeding as UV Eagles showed no mercy to inflict a heavy defeat and root Zeebras to the foot of the table.

Next week looks likely to be victory parade for the Dudes but the hope is that the renowned integrity of this league will see them having to fight all the way to secure a maiden title under the tenure of Sam Green. Some say he’s a genius, others say he’s fortunate to have inherited a great side. Next week, he has the chance to write history.
